Jared O’Mara quits the Labour Party

The MP for Sheffield Hallam, Jared O’Mara, has quit the Labour Party, only a week after being reinstated. Labour previously suspended the whip on O’Mara after it came to he had posted homophobic and sexist comments online.

O’Mara will now sit as an independent for the rest of his term.

O’Mara stated his treatment after his suspension was the reason he quit the party stating he had “made unfairly to feel like a criminal”.

Many in the Labour Party felt he should have been expelled from the party for his comments which were extensive and not in line with the party’s values.

Mr O’Mara has also faced criticism for his work ethic as an MP. He is yet to make a maiden speech and rarely holds surgeries.
